Prince Harry Will Attend His Grandfather Prince Philip's Funeral Without Meghan Markle
According to a spokesperson, Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, will attend his grandfather Prince Philip's funeral in the United Kingdom on April 17 without Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex.
According to the spokesperson, Meghan, who is pregnant, did not obtain medical permission to fly from her doctor.
According to the Palace, the funeral will be held next Saturday at St. George's Chapel in Windsor Castle. According to the BBC, thirty family members will attend the funeral as guests in compliance with the government's COVID-19 guidelines.
According to the royal family, the duke died "peacefully" on Friday at the age of 99.
“Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement. “This morning, His Royal Highness died peacefully at Windsor Castle. Additional announcements will be made in due course. The Royal Family joins people all over the world in mourning his passing.”
On Saturday, Prince Charles addressed the media, saying that he and his family "miss my father tremendously" and that they have been "deeply touched" by people all over the world who have expressed their grief.
"My dear papa was a very special person who, above all, would have been astounded by the reaction and touching things that have been said about him," Charles said.
The College of Arms announced on Friday that Philip would not have a state funeral or lie-in-state, "in line with tradition and His Royal Highnesses' wishes."
Harry and Meghan have not stayed in the United Kingdom for more than a year, since announcing in January 2020 that they will be "stepping back" as working members of the royal family.
The Sussexes currently reside in Montecito, California, but own a house on the grounds of Windsor Castle, Frogmore Cottage, which they purchased outright in September after repaying the UK government the £2.4 million taxpayers charged for renovations.
