How do they celebrate Father’s Day in other countries?
Every year in June, children across Canada honor their fathers with gifts and cards on Father's Day. However, people around the world respect their fathers on different days and in different ways. Taiwanese children, for example, celebrate Father's Day on August 8th because the number 8-8 sounds similar to the word "father" in Mandarin. Take the time to tell your Dad how special he is, no matter when or how you want to celebrate!
Germany
In Germany, "Father's Day" is known as "Men's Day," and it is celebrated by men pulling wagons full of food and drink around town, culminating in a picnic.
Italy
In Italy, "Father's Day" is also known as "St. Joseph's Day," and it's a big party! There's music, dancing, and traditional foods like zeppole (similar to doughnuts), frittelle (fritters), and bigné are served (cream puffs). Yummy!
Thailand
Thai families celebrate Father's Day on the day of the current King's birthday (which is currently in December). To commemorate the occasion, children give their fathers yellow Canna flowers and dress in yellow.
Mexico
Prepare to run to honor your father in Mexico, where a 21-kilometer Father's Day marathon is held each year to raise funds to help protect forests.
Brazil
If you enjoy barbeque, you will enjoy Father's Day in Brazil, where families gather for a large barbeque known as a churrasco.
Japan
Kids in Japan make homemade gifts for their fathers, which are typically a homemade beer or champagne glass.
Father's Day is coming! It's one of the popular holidays in many countries. But do you know the history of Father's Day?
