Our parenting style is influenced not only by our beliefs but also by who we are. Because we have different personalities, we will parent in different ways. Knowing our personalities allows us to accept our parenting style and use our strengths while avoiding our weaknesses. The Enneagram, which describes nine types of mothers, is one method for determining your parenting style. Take the quiz to determine your biggest strengths and weaknesses as a mom of each type. Which are you?

Type 1: The Perfectionist/Reformer

This mother maintains a tidy home and a well-organized life. She has high ideals, a strong sense of right and wrong, and provides security for her children through well-defined boundaries.

Her struggle: She must ensure that she is not too hard on herself or her family and that she allows her children to do things differently.

Type 2: The Assister/Giver

This mother is friendly, empathetic, and enjoys feeling needed. She's the mom who drops what she's doing to bring the forgotten lunch and forgoes her own hobbies to assist her children with theirs. Her children are well-loved and well-served.

Her struggle: She must be careful not to become people-pleasing or resentful of the sacrifices she makes for others.

Type 3: The achiever/performer.

This mother is confident and goal-oriented. One of her goals is to be a good parent, and her children will have her full attention and enthusiasm as she guides them through a variety of experiences.

Her struggle: This mother must balance her ambition so that her children do not feel pressed and her family does not become exhausted.

Type 4: Individualist/Romanticist

Type 4 moms are imaginative, sensitive, affectionate, and empathetic. This is the mom with the glue sticks and glitter because she enjoys fostering creativity in her home and with her children.

Her struggle: She can be depressed or moody, and she needs to take care of her emotions in order to care for her family.

Type 5: The Observer/Investigator

This mother is a creative thinker, researcher, and inventor. She exposes her children to great ideas, researches their needs and the world in which they live, and enjoys seeing them pursue education.

Her struggle: This mom's emotions are tricky, and she should avoid detaching from her family's emotional needs, especially during the baby and teen years.

Type 6: The Loyalist

Her challenge: Type 6 moms can parent with fear or worry; she should allow her children to take reasonable risks when necessary.
