7 Unique and creative ways to celebrate Mother’s Day while social distancing
Let's face it: we've changed the way we live, work, and socialize. We must find fresh, innovative ways to remain linked in the face of school closures, shelter-in-place orders, and strict social distancing guidelines. There are no exceptions to this rule when it comes to annual celebrations. As Mother's Day approaches, it's easy to bemoan your inability to hug your mother or mother figure, take them out to lunch, or bring fresh flowers by side. We understand. Even though life is difficult during the coronavirus, we can still find ways to honor mothers and mother figures, even if it is from afar. But do you know the history of Mother's Day and fun facts about Mother's Day? They could possibly use all the virtual love and online appreciation they can get right now. We should all do it.
If you, like the majority of us, have been hampered by travel constraints, social isolation, or a general desire to keep mom safe, you know how difficult it is to spend quality time together. What if we saw this period of separation as an opportunity to start new traditions? To figure out how to stay linked when you're apart? To take advantage of new technologies and create a truly unforgettable Mother's Day experience?
To assist you, we've compiled a list of seven interesting and entertaining ideas.
Send a heartfelt e-card
Paper cards, coronavirus or not, have a few drawbacks: they're easy to misplace, getting everyone to sign them on time can be difficult, and writing space is often small. What is the solution? Cards that are digital. It might seem strange to replace paper Mother's Day cards with digital ones, but we don't have much of a choice in this new standard. However, it's possible that it's for the best. Digital cards provide a lot of space for anyone to write their warmest wishes, there's no chance of misplacing, losing, or getting coffee stains on them, and you can have family members from all over the world.
Create a nostalgic slideshow
There's no better time than now to reminisce about the good old days. Memories are a beautiful thing, and they can act as a poignant reminder of what matters most in our present situation. Make a slideshow of your favorite childhood memories and/or images, which your mother or mother figure would surely enjoy. To make it even more intimate, add some nostalgic songs, loving quotes, or voiceovers from other family members. Share your screen with your mother figure as they join the video conference call and see their face light up when they watch the presentation. Make sure your mother figure has plenty of tissues on hand!
Throw a virtual surprise party
Surprises have a way of raising even the most depressed spirits, which is particularly true for mothers who are celebrating motherhood alone. To share in the surprise, gather all of your mom figure's friends and relatives. This is a great opportunity to invite old friends who your mother does not see very often. Bonus points if anyone uses their favorite pictures of your mom figure as their Zoom virtual backgrounds! Houseparty is a great virtual surprise party alternative if Zoom isn't your thing.
Send a thoughtful gift card or present
We would eventually be able to enjoy dinners out, spa days, and shopping excursions once more. Sending your mother a gift card to her favorite restaurant, shop, or theater will give her something to look forward to once the quarantine period is over. Purchasing gift cards is also a perfect way to help local businesses! Send a meal from her favorite restaurant via Postmates, UberEats, or Doordash for a more immediate gift.
You can also order a meaningful gift and tell the seller to send the gift to your mom's house. The ‘2 Things I Know I Can Make Pretty Children And People Mad Shirt’ is a great gift you can give to your devoted mom.
Host an online brunch or tea party
These Mother's Day traditions don't have to go away just because we can't get together at a restaurant or tea shop! All we have to do now is get a bit more adventurous about how we host them. Create mimosas, waffles, scones, or craft teas at your mom's and visitors' homes and enjoy them together over a Zoom call.
Play a Mother’s Day virtual trivia game
Who has the most personal awareness of Mom? Find out with a mom-themed virtual trivia game! With Poll Everywhere, you can build a fun Mother's Day competition. Ask questions like, "What is mom's favorite book?" or "Where is mom's favorite vacation spot?" or "What is mom's favorite childhood memory?" to see who in your family really knows a mom. If you don't want to miss out, have your mother prepare the questions so you can participate. Include genuine prizes that honor your mother. A dinner date in the future, a weekend getaway, or a spa day are all excellent choices.
Capture the moment
Whatever virtual Mother's Day celebration you choose, make sure to catch the moment by taking a screenshot or capturing it on your computer screen so you can remember it for years to come. Take a picture of everyone's happy faces in the Zoom gallery view, or capture the whole Zoom call and send it to your guests after the party is over. Print it out and frame it, or put it in your quarantine time capsule.
This Mother's Day may be unlike every other Mother's Day we've ever celebrated, but it doesn't have to be any less unique. We hope the ideas above have given you some inspiration for a memorable and meaningful virtual Mother's Day celebration! We'd love to hear how you honored your mother. On Twitter, tell us about your experiences.
