Meghan Markle Marks Mother's Day With Donation to Help Unhoused Pregnant Women
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are celebrating Mother's Day by making a donation to help homeless mothers and mothers-to-be. The Archewell Foundation has donated diapers, cleaning supplies, and other necessities to Harvest Home.
On Sunday, the organization announced the news on Instagram, thanking Archewell and Procter & Gamble and sharing a personal letter from Meghan.
"As a mother and an expectant mother, I understand the value of community support, safe and accessible pregnancy resources, and trusted guidance in a nurturing setting," Meghan said.
"These ingredients are essential not only to our physical health, but also to our mental well-being, and I applaud you for leading a compassionate community that embodies these values."
"Thank you for everything you do for the women and mothers who are turned away elsewhere through no fault of their own," she continued. "When we consider how vulnerable any mother feels during the vulnerable period of pregnancy, we can see how much more difficult it can be for pregnant women of color and those from under-resourced and vulnerable communities. I hope you will accept my offer of assistance in furthering the well-being of the residents of Harvest Home."
Meghan and Harry have a 2-year-old son named Archie and a baby girl on the way. In a video message played during Global Citizen's VAX LIVE: The Concert to Reunite the World benefit event on Saturday, the former Suits star opened up about her soon-to-be daughter. The event was co-chaired by Meghan and Harry.
"The past year has been defined by communities working tirelessly and heroically together to combat COVID-19. And we've gathered tonight because the road ahead is becoming clearer, but it will take all of us to find our way forward "Meghan stated.
"As campaign chairs for VAX LIVE, my husband and I believe it is critical that our recovery prioritizes the health, safety, and success of all people, especially women, who have been disproportionately affected by this pandemic. Women, particularly women of color, have seen a generation's worth of economic gains wiped out. Since the pandemic began, nearly 5.5 million women in the United States have lost their jobs, and 47 million more women worldwide are expected to fall into extreme poverty."
"My husband and I are very excited to welcome our first child, a daughter. It's a joy we share with millions of other families all over the world "She went on.
"When we think of her, we think of all the young women and girls around the world who need to be empowered and supported to lead us forward."
"Their future leadership is dependent on the decisions and actions we take now to position them, and all of us, for a successful, equitable, and compassionate tomorrow. We want to make certain that as we recover, we recover stronger, and that as we rebuild, we rebuild together. Thank you very much "Meghan came to an end.
During the segment, the Duchess of Sussex's necklace drew the attention of viewers. Meghan wore Awe Inspired "Women Power Charm Necklace," which has a pendant with the female symbol and a raised fist.
