Since its release in 2014, Outlander has become a television success, enthralling viewers with its romantic Scottish charm and time-traveling adventures.

What is the Outlander theme tune?

The fantasy show's premiere is set against the backdrop of Scotland's iconic Skye Boat Song, which follows the exploits of Highland cattle poacher Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) and World War II nurse Claire Randall (Catriona Balfe).

The song was written in the late 1800s and tells the story of Bonnie Prince Charlie's journey from Uist to Skye.



Following his defeat at the Battle of Culloden in 1746, he eluded capture by government forces by fleeing in a small boat disguised as a serving maid.

The Outlander theme, on the other hand, has new lyrics that refer to Claire Randall's 200-year journey back in time.

Bear McCreary, an American composer best known for his work on the reimagined Battlestar Galactica series and The Walking Dead, composed the theme song.

The lyrics of the song are a rewrite of Robert Louis Stevenson's poem Sing Me a Song of a Lad That is Gone, which was published in 1892.

Who sings the Outlander theme tune?

Raya Yarbrough, a singer from the United States who previously collaborated with McCreary on Battlestar Galactica, performs the song.

Original music by the singer has also been used in a variety of other films and television shows. In 2006, she released her first album.

Tom Bryce recorded the song in April 1899, and it soon became a classic among Scottish folk and dance musicians.

Alfred Deller recorded the song for his album Western Wind in 1958, and Tom Jones recorded it in 1965, among others.
