10 Reasons Why Being a Bookworm Makes Life Better
Books aren't just a static source of entertainment to turn to when you're bored. No, bookworms understand that reading is one of the most enjoyable aspects of life. Here are ten of the reasons why.
1. Books can be best friends.
A good book speaks directly to you, as if it understands everything that is going on inside of you. It takes something from your own life and breathes it onto the page, letting you know that you are not alone. Others understand how you feel. Others have made it through, and you will as well. A book bestie understands everything you're going through. Also, books do not force you to leave the house to socialize. That is correct. Soulmates are people who are compatible with one another.
2. It is a virtue to be patient.
Waiting for the addition of a new best friend to a beloved series teaches us bookworms to be patient. Extremely patient. SO tolerant. Is a release date set yet? Isn't that funny? Okay, then. We've learned that it's okay to wait years between new releases. Decades, if not centuries. Saints could learn a thing or two about patience from us. This learned trait is also useful when waiting in line at restaurants. Unlocked life skill
3. Reading is an act of self-care
When anxiety becomes overwhelming, books can provide a place to sit, shift your focus to something else, and hit the reset button. Are you going through a difficult time and hoping for a happy ending? One can be found in a book. Do you want to see some difficult emotions worked out in a way that you don't have an outlet for? Take out a book. They don't *make everything better* like a magic wand, but books are a valid (among many) method of caring for your mental health.
4. Books are a never-ending source of good quotes.
“A mind requires books in the same way that a sword requires a whetstone to keep its edge. That is why, Jon Snow, I read so much.” —Tyrion Lannister, Game of Thrones
“We could have all been killed, or worse, expelled.”
—Harry Potter's Hermione Granger
Almost every day, I have the opportunity to use a good one-liner from a book. And bookworms are always ready. We also have a large stockpile of amusing vocabulary to draw from.
5. Books are educational... but without the agony of education, right?
Who would have guessed? You can learn a lot just by opening a book. You won't have to sit through a two-hour Power-Point presentation to learn it, either. History, science, engineering, language, culture, and so on... If the story is compelling enough, you won't even notice that you're being spoon-fed facts and figures. Furthermore, you will never run out of random trivia to annoy your friends and family with.
6. Make Genuine Friends
Finding other bookworms who share your passion for a particular genre or author is incredibly simple, especially in this digital age. You already have a connection because you both adore Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn series and agree that Era 2 doesn't get nearly enough attention. And there's nothing better than watching the movie adaptation with your friends and tearing apart every UNNECESSARY CHANGE (hint, hint, Hollywood).
7. Books eliminate the need for clumsy "get to know me" introductions.
There will be no more annoying lists of "fun facts" about yourself. Simply make a handy graphic of the books on your to-read list, and everyone will know everything about your likes, dislikes, and interests. Alternatively, bring up your #bookstagram feed on your phone and show them the screen. Your life has just gotten a whole lot easier.
8. A burden shared is a burden shared half the time.
When a book emotionally devastates you, the bookworm way to make it better is to recommend it to all your friends and family right away. They will now understand what you are going through, which will make things easier for all of you. Hopefully so?
And because someone else is reading, the plot may change. Who can say? Perhaps they didn't die this time. Why not give it a shot?
9. Creating a wishlist is a breeze.
There will be no dreadfully blank mind when the question "what do you want for your birthday this year?" is posed. Fortunately, that is a simple question to answer. We just need to think of the first few books on our "I can't wait to read this" list, excluding any hardcovers if the person asking is on a tight budget, and BOOM. Done and done. The ideal gift for under ten dollars. There will be no agony, multiple options, or incorrect sizes. It is a painless process for all parties involved.
10. The journey of discovery never comes to an end.
Despite the fact that each book eventually comes to an end, new books are published every year. Books will never come to an end. New worlds to explore, plots to astonish you, and people to adore. The thrill never has to end because your next favorite book is always waiting for you to discover it. It's a never-ending spell.
