The Foreigner Challenge on TikTok Is Seriously Dangerous and Disturbing
The majority of TikTok challenges that go viral on the video-sharing app are merely harmless entertainment. Often they include persuading parents to perform a choreographed dance routine. They can be as easy as walking through your clasped hands to determine the size of your behind (no, these aren't made up). Unfortunately, there's a new TikTok challenge that's gaining momentum, and it's not one you want to be a part of. The Foreigner Challenge is what it's called.
What is the TikTok Foreigner Challenge?
The Foreigner Challenge isn't for the faint of heart. It entails young children posting sexually explicit images and videos of themselves as Pop Smoke's song "Foreigner" plays in the background (hence the "challenge's" name). We don't need to justify why this is such a big deal.
Foreigner Challenge videos are typically created with the Funimate app, which enables users to combine images and videos to create a longer video. The videos are then either uploaded to TikTok by the user or sent to a separate account set up to share videos from multiple users.
Drama Kween, a TikTok actor, uploaded a video to YouTube titled "stop the foreigner challenge" on April 27, 2020. In the video, she provides some context on the so-called challenge and addresses some of the risks associated with taking part in it.
Unfortunately, some of the images and videos that were originally posted to TikTok as part of the challenge have begun to circulate on other social media networks such as Twitter and Instagram. Some accounts that post the videos say they're trying to "raise awareness" about the issue, but all they're doing is making the videos more open to predators. If you come across any accounts that are sharing videos from the Foreigner Challenge, you can report them right away.
Is the TikTok Foreigner Challenge real?
It's difficult to say what makes a challenge "real," but people are taking part in the Foreigner Challenge trend, especially underage teenagers. Obviously, TikTok has not approved the trend, but the video-sharing app does provide a convenient forum for everyone who wants to engage in the potentially dangerous trend.
So, how does TikTok handle the Foreigner Challenge? At this time, TikTok does not seem to have made any official statements about the challenge. The platform's Safety Center, on the other hand, offers tools for parents who want to keep their children safe while also encouraging them to use TikTok (or a limited TikTok experience if they are under the age of 13).
“Any material that sexually abuses, targets, or endangers children is strictly prohibited on TikTok and is a clear breach of our Terms of Service and Community Guidelines,” according to another section of the TikTok Safety Center. If we become aware of any such material, we will take immediate action to delete it, terminate accounts, and notify the NCMEC and law enforcement authorities as necessary.”
Hopefully, this ensures that the app will be able to tackle the Foreigner Challenge (and any potential challenges related to it) easily. Meanwhile, users of TikTok can report any images, comments, or users who are sharing harmful content. Everyone stay safe out there! Prevent this challenge by wearing The Foreigner Challenge Shirt Foreigner Challenge Girl to spread your message and disapproval to this trend.
