The best Halloween songs for kids

Your little pumpkins will cry in the dead of night as they listen to our favorite Halloween songs for kids.

We've compiled a mighty-fine list of creepy, kooky, and spooky songs that pair perfectly with a family pumpkin painting session, drawing inspiration from our favorite scary movies for kids and best bands for kids. (Apple cider donuts are optional but highly recommended.)

You can't go wrong with any of the terrifyingly good choices, whether you choose the classic "This Is Halloween" or rock out to Lucy Kalantari & The Jazz Cats' new single.

Although this year's Halloween looks a little different—and there are plenty of new rules in place—groovin' like ghouls is the ideal way to commemorate the year's scariest day. Halloween greetings! Which songs are you planning to include in your playlist?

Best Halloween songs for kids

1. "Halloween Sharks" by Pinkfong

If you thought hearing "Baby Shark" a million times was frightening, wait until you hear the Halloween version of the toddler favorite. We're treated to a slower, jazzier tempo and a few "boos" in place of the "doos," but it's safe to assume that this, too, will get stuck in your head, just like the original.

2. "Haunting Days of Halloween" by Lucy Kalantari & The Jazz Cats

As the dissonant strings begin to play, the sing-along jazz melody will draw listeners in and get them groovin'. Even if your Halloween party is completely devoid of children, it's spooky, fun, and well worth a listen.

3. "Ghost In My House" by Jumpin' Jamie

A ghost in the house sounds more fun—and at times irritating—than scary, thanks to the Weezer-esque rock tune. This song gives us total little brother vibes. Plus, any paranormal presence that is amusing rather than threatening is a win!

4. "Costume Party" by The Pop Ups

Exploring Spirit Halloween is more difficult than it is enjoyable. With so many fun costumes to choose from, it's nearly impossible to pick just one. This track is for any child who is stumped as to what they should be on the spookiest day of the year.

5. "Ghostbusters" by Andrew & Polly

The popular spooky jingle gets a pop makeover that will make you want to dance...and, of course, call the ghostbusters.

6. "The Darlings of Lumberland" by They Might Be Giants

We won't judge if you choose to rock out to this catchy industrial jazz tune solo, even though They Might Be Giants is one of our favorite bands for kids. It's creepy and quirky enough to add some variety to your Halloween playlist. These Brooklynites make the kindie scene appealing to adults as well.

7. "Under My Bed" by Recess Monkey

Little ghouls, goblins, and vampires will enjoy singing along to this folk song about the monsters that may appear while they sleep. When it comes to bedtime, monsters under the bed are a scary subject, but this jingle welcomes the spookiness with upbeat beats that beg for a fast dance marathon.

8. "Monster Boogie" by The Laurie Berkner Band

The Laurie Berkner Band's rhythmic folk tune is inspired by a creature with purple eyes and green teeth. We'll dance to everything she sings, but this song will be on repeat for us when October arrives.

9. "The Monsters Hop" by Bert Convy

This '60s throwback will send shivers down your spine! Follow Bert as he sees Frankenstein, Dracula, and other terrifying beasts. The bluesy undertones make it difficult not to get up and dance.

10. "Season of the Witch" by Lana Del Rey

Del Rey's light vocals complement Donovan's original track perfectly. Every time we listen, we can't help but feel a sense of mystery brewing. In the end, her version may be even creepier than the original. It's no surprise that it was included on the Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark soundtrack.
