Fact #1. Cannabis was the very first e-commerce purchase.

According to many reports, marijuana was the first item purchased and distributed over the Internet. This fact comes from John Markoff's book What the Dormouse Said: How the Sixties Counterculture Shaped the Personal Computer Industry. According to the author, in 1972, students from Stanford University in California purchased a small amount of cannabis from their counterparts at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The same story is told in Jamie Bartlett's other novel, The Dark Net1.

Fact #2. Top Cannabis Addicts

According to UNODC results, 18.3 percent of Iceland's population aged 15 to 64 uses cannabis. The United States (16.2%) and Nigeria (14.3%) had the second and third highest rates of consumption. Canada, Chile, France, New Zealand, Bermuda, Australia, and Zambia are among the top ten weed-smoking nations. The United Kingdom is ranked 26th, followed by Ireland.

Fact #3: Bob Marley and Cannabis

Bob Marley, a Jamaican reggae singer and the most prominent musician on weedophile posters. Marley smoked marijuana until his death in 1981, and he was buried with a weed bud at his request.

Fact #4: Cannabis was the first to be synthesized.

Dimethylheptylpyran (DMHP) is high-potency synthetic cannabis that was developed by the United States military in 1949. It is a pale yellow, viscous oil with a composition somewhat similar to THC. DMHP has a stronger sedative effect and a weaker psychological effect than THC, and its effects can leave most people incapacitated for up to three days.

Fact # 5: Bhang

Bhang is an edible mixture made from the cannabis plant's buds, leaves, and flowers. For thousands of years, it has been added to food and drinks in India, and it is a part of Hindu religious rites, rituals, and festivals, including the famous spring festival of Holi.

Bhang is also used in Ayurvedic medicine and is promoted as a treatment for a variety of ailments such as nausea, vomiting, and physical pain.

Fact # 6: The United States is the world's largest manufacturer of legal cannabis.

According to a recent United Nations survey, Britain is the world's largest producer of legal cannabis. In 2016, the UK developed 95 tons of marijuana for medicinal and scientific purposes, accounting for 44.9 percent of the global total. The United Kingdom is also the largest exporter of the drug, with 2,1 tons shipped in 2016 – nearly 70% of the global total.

Fact # 7: Canada was the first nation to completely legalize cannabis.

Uruguay became the first country in the world to fully legalize cannabis in 2013, including cultivating, selling, and consuming the plant. Uruguay legalized home cultivation of up to six plants in August 2014, as well as the creation of growing clubs, a state-controlled marijuana dispensary regime, and the establishment of the Cannabis Regulatory Institute.
