Caitlyn Jenner Announces She’s Running for California Governor

Caitlyn Jenner has entered the race to become the next governor of California.

There was a lot of speculation that she might run, and Caitlyn didn't put a stop to it. "I have been a compassionate disrupter throughout my life, from representing the United States and winning a gold medal at the Olympics to helping advance the movement for equality," she declared on Friday. As Californians, we have a once-in-a-lifetime chance to fundamentally fix our state before it is too late.”

Her path isn't made of stone. There is a petition to recall Governor Gavin Newsom, which has gained traction in the aftermath of the pandemic. If the recall campaign is approved for the ballot, California voters will be asked two questions. Should Newsom be removed from office? If a majority of voters vote yes, the second question will be considered. Who do you want to take his place? Caitlyn's name will appear there.

Here's the truth: she has an advantage because of her name. You may recall that when California Governor Gray Davis was recalled years ago, Arnold Schwarzenegger led a large field of candidates to become the next governor.

There will almost certainly be a large number of candidates vying for the job, but Caitlyn may be the most well-known of the bunch, giving her an advantage.

Caitlyn Jenner has already taken a shot at Newsom, saying, "This isn't the California we're used to. This is Gavin Newsom's California, where he tells us to stay at home but then goes out to dinner with his lobbyist buddies." She's referring to Newsom's infamous dinner at the French Laundry.

She isn't the only celebrity toying with the idea of running for governor. Matthew McConaughey isn't just interested in running; he appears to be leading the pack, even pulling ahead of current governor Greg Abbott.
